In 2023, Aquarech Limited and LBDA entered into PPP working arrangement to build synergy as a requisite for enhancing growth in Aquaculture and blue economy sector. It has also ventured into blended Financing Model arrangement with Financial Institutions to enable farmers to access modern equipment for fish farming to ameliorate fish production.
Aquarech Limited was founded in 2019, with the objective of revolutionizing fish farming through technology and innovation development, leading to enhanced productivity, organized marketing structure and improvement of the livelihoods for small and medium scale farmers in Kenya and beyond. Since its inception the company has achieved tremendous transformation of fish farming methods from traditional based to modern based, involving the use of Aquarech App, which has linked all players in the fish value chain, ranging from input suppliers to Consumers. Through the App actors in the fish value chain are able to access information on availability of quality fish feeds, quality fingerlings, technical assistance (e.g use of temperature sensors, fish sampling, data collection and storage), market linkages (Fish Deli and fish off-take) and training services.
LBDA is a body established by the National Government of Kenya to accelerate development in Western region. Its core function is to implement development programmes and projects, coordinate development programmes and activities, promote management and conservation of natural resources, Monitor and evaluate development programmes and projects in its mandate areas. It has been involved in fingerling production at its Kibos site, situated along Kisumu Miwani road. It has immensely contributed to enhancement of fish production and marketing for over a decade through the promotion of inland fish farming enterprises by providing technical advice and quality fingerlings to farmers at affordable prices.
